BIO:

Krystina Waler is the Director of Ukrainian Initiatives at the Temerty Foundation. Most recently, Krystina was the Executive Director of Help Us Help Charity, an organization that helps venerable children and veterans across Ukraine.

She has lived and worked in Ukraine for various periods since 2005. Throughout this time, she has been involved in many humanitarian efforts there. Most notably, from 2014-2018, Krystina worked with the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to coordinate and execute surgical missions that operated on Ukrainians who sustained traumatic facial and upper extremity injuries while fighting for Ukraine’s sovereignty in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea. This initiative saw Canadian and Ukrainian medical professionals work together to reconstruct the bodies of hundreds of defenders of Ukraine and continues to this day.

In Canada, she has served as a member of the board of directors for the Children of Chornobyl Fund, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – National, and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation among others.

Krystina holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Toronto. In 2019 and 2021, Krystina was a candidate in the federal election in St. Catharines, Canada. She is passionate about supporting a free Ukraine and the uniting the global efforts to support Ukraine.

Meet Oleksandr Babich, a dedicated historian, and researcher hailing from Odessa. Amidst Russia’s persistent conflict, he swiftly assumed a crucial role as a beacon of aid for Ukrainian soldiers. Operating through his travel agency, he orchestrated a volunteer group that forged a close partnership with Polish organizations committed to aiding Ukraine. As his impact grew, he received a call from Kyiv itself – the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine enlisted him for the impactful “On the Shield” initiative. In this capacity, Babich joined a compassionate team on a mission to locate and recover fallen soldiers, facilitate their identification, and reunite them with their grieving families.

Dora Chomiak, a native New Yorker, has been active in the Ukrainian-American community in the United States since the 1980s. Dora has been traveling to Ukraine for 25 years and worked for the independent Soros foundation in Kyiv from 1991 to 1992 when she co-founded a media incubator that launched non-governmental news organizations in newly independent Ukraine. She then led a $7 million grant from USAID until 1994 with Internews. Dora has grown businesses through marketing at brands such as McGraw-Hill, Thomson Reuters, and Baby Jogger. Dora holds an A.B from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. She speaks English, Ukrainian and Russian. Dora has been involved in the numerous Razom projects, and is also responsible for the Razom Partnership with Hromadske Radio.

Oleksandra Azarkhina is deputy minister for communities, territories and infrastructure development of Ukraine. Her primary tasks are developing and strengthening the defense capability of the critical infrastructure sector and general strategic planning for infrastructure.

Azarkhina is working to create a unified digital system for the reconstruction of Ukraine. This is a key state anti-corruption tool that guarantees transparency and accountability in implementing infrastructure projects. The basis of the system is a digital register of damaged and destroyed infrastructure that has already been developed and approved at the state level.

Also within Azarkhina’s area of responsibility are logistics, particularly the construction of a multimodal transport system; anti-corruption policy, including the creation of transparent digital infrastructure management in cooperation with international partners; and collection and analysis of statistical information (Big Data).

Azarkhina is involved in formulating strategy for the postwar recovery of Ukraine, namely the recovery of the Crimean Peninsula, and in the oversight of international humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine. She is an ambassador of the Grain From Ukraine humanitarian program, the main task of which is to stabilize the global agricultural market and fight hunger in the world.

Chairman of the Charity Foundation «KOLO» in 2014-2017 and from 2019 to the present. Before a full-scale war, the foundation works in the areas of education, culture and medicine.
From February 24, 2022 аreas of activity were changed in accordance with the needs of wartime. During the war, the Foundation, together with the volunteer community, transferred more than 1,500 tons of humanitarian aid, more than 74,000 food kits were transferred in the Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. More than 2,500+ received evacuation assistance to Western Ukraine, 1,786 children and 945 guardians and accompanying persons were evacuated to Turkey as part of the “Childhood without War” project together with guardians.

Despite the military actions, the foundation implements projects for the preservation of cultural heritage and the popularization of Ukrainian culture.
